Bauman

MONROE – A Harriman man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Hasidic man Tuesday evening near the Quick Shop Deli on River Road in the Village of Harriman.
State Police said Matthew Bauman, 25, had stolen a gun from a family member and planned on using it to rob the deli in order to acquire money to fund his drug addiction.
The victim, Aron Weiss, 18, of the Village of Kiryas Joel, was in the area of the deli using his cell phone when he was accosted by Bauman, who unsuccessfully attempted to take money from Weiss.
As the victim was fleeing, he was shot once in the upper shoulder by Bauman, troopers said. Weiss was transported to Westchester Medical Center.
Bauman was charged with assault, attempted robbery and criminal possession of a weapon, all as felonies.  He is in the Orange County Jail without bail.
State Police were assisted in the investigation by Harriman Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
