Cops converge on group home after false report of violent attack

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – A false report of a violent attack at a group home in the Town of Southeast prompted a large-scale police response on Friday afternoon.
The incident began around 3 p.m. when a caller told an ambulance service that there was an attack by an armed man at a group home for disabled people on Simpson Road in Southeast. The ambulance service dispatcher called Putnam County 911, which called the sheriff’s office.
Law enforcement converged on the house, entered it and found the report of an attack to be false. Neighboring residences were also checked by police and found to be safe and secure.
Simpson road was shut down for three hours during the incident.
Investigators are working to determine the identity of the person who falsely reported the attack. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 845-225-4300. All calls will be kept confidential.
