Horton – out of his new classroom
but still collecting a salary for now

POUGHKEEPSIE – Former Tri-Valley School District high school English teacher Jason Horton, who was arrested this week by State Police on rape charges for having sexual contact with a 17-year-old student, has been removed from the classroom in his new teaching position.
Just two weeks ago, Horton left Tri-Valley and took a new job teaching in the Poughkeepsie City School District, but in light of the charges against him, Board of Education Vice President Raymond Duncan issued a statement late Thursday saying “a certified English teacher will be assigned to teach the courses previously assigned to Mr. Horton, commencing on Thursday, November 19, 2015.”
State education law mandates that Horton will continue to collect his salary for 90 days.
“We want to assure our parents, students and staff that the district will investigate these allegations and take appropriate responsive action,” Duncan said.
