People living upstairs could mean
more business downstairs

MONTICELLO – The face of Broadway in Monticello is changing and village officials believe it will be for the better.
Local lawmakers changed the zoning that will now allow apartments to be rented above storefronts on the village’s main retail strip.
Mayor Douglas Solomon said there is widespread support for the change.
“We want to bring back a more vibrant atmosphere out on Broadway, get some more pedestrian traffic,” he said.  “Maybe it will help spark some interest in opening up some businesses on Broadway.”
Solomon said it will also bring much needed additional foot traffic downtown with those people patronizing the retail establishments.
