can attract more airlines

NEW WINDSOR – The number of passengers to fly at Stewart Airport continues its decline.
The latest figures, for September, show a little under 1,500 fewer people using the airport than the same month last year.
Airport Development Director Michael Torelli told the Stewart Airport Commission on Tuesday passenger numbers in general are off this year.
“You will see in September 23,778 passengers, slightly underneath
what it was in previous Septembers,” Torelli said.  “We
are down 5.8 percent over the previous year. Year to date, we had 214,887.
We are running about 8.7 percent below year-to-date-totals last year.
“We are going to try to make some of this up, but you are going to
see the same numbers because the schedules haven’t changed.”
Cargo tonnage carried through the airport is a different story. It was up 22 percent in September over the same month last year and year-to-date, it was up 8.5 percent.
