Schumer: “… can we check?”

NEWBURGH – In the wake of the terrorist attacks on Paris, Isis has said it will target America next, specifically Washington, DC.
Senator Charles Schumer, in Newburgh Monday, wants tight controls of refugees being allowed to come to the US.
“We have seen that Isis has been smuggling in some of these refugees amidst others who have real humane needs, even if it’s one out of 1,000, the damage that would be caused would be terrible,” Schumer said.  “The question is can we check? We have a process. It’s different than Europe where people just cross the borders. Here no one gets refugee status until they get checked out. But, what if the status of the lists in Syria and elsewhere. Can we determine who might be a terrorist from who is validly fleeing and what is what we have to check out before we let refuges in.”
Orange County Emergency Services Commissioner Walter Koury said the region and the rest of the country is on alert.
“To ask if that could possibly happen here in this country, there is no doubt in our minds that appears the way that Isil appears to be headed,” Khoury said. “All the members of the members of public need to be vigilant and aware of what is going on. We all go diners and restaurants and stadiums and concert halls. To take pictures of actors performing, that is a usual, that is a normal type of thing, but when someone turns around and takes pictures of exits, that is quite unusual.”
All county officials revived the slogan, ‘if you see something, say something,’ with a phone call or email to the police.
