Central Hudson to conduct siren test of the Sturgeon Pool hydroelectric plant

RIFTON – Central Hudson Gas and Electric will conduct a siren test for the Sturgeon Pool hydroelectric plant in  Rifton on Monday, November 9 beginning at 9:30 a.m. The test, which will last for about one minute, will be conducted in conjunction with Ulster County Emergency Management.
The sirens are located in the upper portion of the waterway near the dam, and will be audible to residents near and downstream along the Wallkill River and Rondout Creek.
In the event of an actual emergency, residents in the area should proceed immediately to higher elevations and away from the river and creek beds.
The Sturgeon Pool plant is one of the original hydroelectric facilities providing electricity to the Hudson Valley and is monitored and inspected on a regular basis.
The dam is regulated by the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
