NEW YORK – The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board approved its 2015-19 capital program on Wednesday that includes finishing the installation of positive train control on Metro-North Railroad.
The revised $29 billion spending plan includes an Orange County midway train yard and passing sidings between the new yard and Suffern on the Port Jervis to Hoboken line.
Those projects were pushed by state Assemblyman James Skoufis (D, Woodbury).
“The new yard must go through a rigorous review and planning process
involving all local stakeholders; once a yard location is finalized, I
will push to expedite rail siding construction so that two-way train travel
in Orange County becomes a reality during the 2015-2019 capital program,”
he said.
Skoufis credited Orange County’s MTA Board Member Susan Metzger with “the hard work and determination” that pushed for the Metro-North projects.
The Capital Program Review Board must approve the total MTA capital plan now that the MTA Board gave its okay.
