Retired cop faces up to 25 years for deadly DUI

BRONX – A retired NYPD officer was indicted on a charge that he was driving drunk striking a pedestrian, killing him.
Officer Jorge Hernaiz, 44, of Yonkers struck Marino Nunez, 24, who died two days after the May 31 incident as his car exited the Henry Hudson Parkway in Riverdale.
Hernaiz was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, aggravated DWI, reckless driving and resisting arrest.
If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison.
During Hernaiz’s arraignment on Thursday, it was noted that his blood alcohol content at the time of the incident was .25, more than three times the legal limit.
Hernaiz is in jail in lieu of $350,000 cash bail or bond.
