Benjamin (file): “We are doing very well”

NEW PALTZ – The Center for Research, Regional Engagement and Outreach
has been renamed in honor of Dr. Gerald Benjamin, the current director
and associate vice president for regional engagement at SUNY New Paltz.
Benjamin, who has held a number of positions during his 47 years at the school, said the college has developed over the years to become “a spectacular” educational facility.
“It has not been linear,” Benjamin said.  “We’ve had our ups and downs, budge crises, challenges to recruit quality students, but we are really at the top of our game right now. The quality of students is very high, the faculty is young and energetic, we are getting some new facilities, although  not yet at the level we would like to be with the facilities. We are doing very well. The state has been very supportive in that way and our work here has been very well in the area, and I think, having an impact.”
College President Donald Christian said Benjamin is “the foremost scholar and expert on local and state government in New York and is held in high esteem by his faculty and administrative colleagues, state and local government officials, other scholars, and thousands of students who have taken his courses.”
