POUGHKEEPSIE – SouFun Holdings, Inc., a Chinese real estate company, bought the New York Military Academy in Cornwall at auction in US Bankruptcy Court in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday.
The company will pay $15.825 million for the 126-year-old facility, which it intends to keep open as a college preparatory school.
NYMA Board Chairman Anthony Desa, who has been running the school, said he will continue to run the school on a transitional basis. The facility did not open for the fall semester last month.
Mika Saarela, dean of academics at the school debunked rumors of staff strikes and opposition to the sale, indicating they were not true.
“The school and faculty are totally committed to cooperating with the buyers,” Saarela said.
