Rockland man charged in hit and run of bicyclist in Putnam

GARRISON – A Rockland County man was charged after he allegedly struck a bicyclist with his car and then left the scene without stopping.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office accused Ricardo McKay, 71, of New City, with hitting a 52-year-old Cold Spring woman with his car as she was riding her bike along Route 9D in Garrison on Wednesday, September 23.  The woman was treated at the scene and did not go to the hospital.
Authorities said McKay was southbound on Route 9D near the intersection of Old Manitou Road when his car passed the bicyclist, who was riding along the edge of the road, sideswiping her striking her shoulder and hip. McKay reportedly failed to stop as required by law and kept driving.
Evidence gathered at the scene along with security camera video from the area led police to identify McKay as the driver. He was charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and unsafe passing of a bicycle.
