NEW CITY – Rockland County and the United Way of Rockland County have signed an agreement to establish a long-term relationship to respond to the needs of the county during and after any natural or manmade disaster.
Under the terms of the memorandum of understanding, the county, while directing local response to disaster relief, will request that United Way provide assistance to residents seeking help.
“Being an organization that was actively involved in helping to meet the needs of the community, individuals and families during all stages of Hurricane Sandy truly reinforced the importance of all organizations working together during times of disaster, said United Way President Mimi Vilord. “We are excited about this opportunity and look forward to working with non-profit organizations, government agencies and community groups.”
United Way has also donated 10 portable generators to the county for use during disaster or weather-related power outages. The new, gas-powered, 15 kilowatt Generac generators will add to the county’s existing inventory of power generating equipment.
The generators can be used to supply temporary power to private homes, small businesses or even traffic lights in the wake of a devastating storm or other event.
