Pearl River man indicted on vehicular assault charges

NEW CITY – The Rockland
County grand jury has indicted a Pearl River man on several charges related
to injuries to several people as the result of a June 13 auto crash.

Matthew Beckerle, 50, of Pearl River, was charged with five counts of
vehicular assault, nine counts of assault, and driving while intoxicated.

District Attorney Thomas Zugibe said that at about 9:40 p.m. on June 13,
Beckerle was driving at a high rate of speed southbound in the area of
Kings Highway and Route 304 when he rear-ended a vehicle with two occupants.

After that crash, he swerved into the northbound lanes of Route 304 and
crashed head-on with another vehicle with three occupants. Both vehicles
were totaled in the crashes.

The occupants of both cars all suffered serious injuries.
