Yonkers police officer, Ground Zero rescuer, dies of brain cancer

YONKERS – Law enforcement from across the metropolitan area came to Yonkers on Monday to pay their respects to city Police Lt. Roy McLoughlin, who died last Thursday, September 10 of brain cancer. The 38-year-old officer contracted the disease after participating in the rescue efforts at Ground Zero following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
McLoughlin, who was a member of the Yonkers Police Department for 17
years, leaves behind his wife, Christine, their four children –
David, Emmett, Maeve, and Owen; his father, retired Police Captain Roy
McLoughlin; and his siblings, Lt. Mitchell McLoughlin, Captain Andrew
McLoughlin and Sgt. Meredith McLoughlin, all members of Yonkers PD.
“He battled the illness for many years and his conspicuous and meritorious
service were a credit to himself and our great city,” said City
Council President Liam McLoughlin.
The council president was no relation to the deceased.
