BEACON – Six companies
have submitted proposals to develop a large solar farm on top of the former
Beacon city landfill.
Mayor Randy Casale said each offer is under review with two ways to move forward with the project.
“The city could either bond the money and do it themselves and run it or you can go to a PPA (power purchase agreement), which is you hire a preferred company and they put it in and the difference in the rate of electric that you are going to save, they take a percent of it to pay their cost and their profit and you save the difference and you don’t do anything with it,” Casale said.
The city is weighing both alternatives with hopes of moving forward with a microgrid to provide power to essential services.
