Tyner (pink shirt): “… paying the workers poverety wages”

POUGHKEEPSIE – Many of the usual activists were present for what has become an annual event – a Labor Day rally on the steps of the Poughkeepsie Post Office.  Organizer Joel Tyner was joined by candidates for office, including Democrat county executive challenger Diane Jablonski, a few other county legislators, and some municipal officials and contingents from several labor unions.
Tyner repeated what has become a standard battle cry for him.
“We’re calling for a living wage and we’re calling for a ‘peoples’ budget’ for Dutchess County and an end to the corporate welfare,” Tyner said.  “We’re talking about $40 million a year in corporate welfare to profitable companies that are paying the workers poverty wages.”
For example, Tyner said there’s plenty of money to make sure the county Industrial Development Agency “mandates pay equity.”
