Instead of candles, protestors opted for safer glow sticks

NYACK – Nyack Hospital employees who are members of 1199 SEIU,
United Healthcare Workers East have been negotiating a new contract since
their current one expired on April 30 and with none apparently in sight,
they held a candlelight vigil at the hospital on Wednesday evening.
The union learned that recently the hospital had not paid into the members’ Health Benefit Fund in the last 2 ½ months despite it being legally bound to continue to accept the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining that has been in place for the last three years. That includes providing 1199SEIU members with their health benefits.
The union members held the vigil to inform the community about the current situation at the hospital.
