GOSHEN – A Newburgh man is expected to get 18 years to life in prison when sentenced in October for killing another man outside a Newburgh bar.
Alvaro Ramos-Lopez, 27, pled guilty on Thursday in Orange County Court to a murder charge in connection with the April 3 bludgeoning death of Armando Soriano-Martel, 40, of Newburgh outside Rey Del Pollo Bar and Restaurant on Washington Street in Newburgh.
The victim was found by police to have been severely beaten and a bloody pipe was found lying nearby. He was rushed to St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A witness to the attack knew both men and provided Ramos-Lopez’s name to police. He was caught in Westchester County two days later.
“Senseless violence destroys lives and communities, whether it is committed with a gun, or a knife, a pipe, or bare hands,” said District David Hoovler.
He said law enforcement “has taken a stand against violence committed on our streets, and we will seek to bring to justice anyone who uses a weapon to commit an act of violence.”
