MIDDLETOWN – A Pond Eddy woman was sentenced Wednesday in Middletown City Court to three years of probation and full restitution of over $12,000 on a guilty plea of welfare fraud in Orange County.
State Inspector General Leahy Scott said Andrea Lee, 28, fraudulently collected $11,169 in Child Care assistance benefits and $882 in SNAP benefits from the Orange County Department of Social Services.
Lee had previously pled guilty in Sullivan County to petit larceny and making a punishable false written statement as misdemeanors for stealing more than $13,000 in child care assistance SNAP (food stamps) and Temporary Assistance from the Sullivan County Division of Health and Family Services. She was sentenced in Liberty Town Court in May to three years of probation and ordered to pay restitution of over $13,000.
Between the two counties, the total amount of fraudulently obtained public assistance was over $25,000.
The investigation leading to the arrest and conviction of Lee was assisted by the State Police, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Department of Social Services and District Attorney’s Office, and the Sullivan County Division of Health and Family Services and District Attorney’s Office.
