NEW PALTZ – The new SUNY Ulster campus at the former Sophie Finn Elementary School in Kingston is a welcome addition to post-secondary education in the Hudson Valley, SUNY New Paltz President Donald Christian said.
The Stone Ridge-based Ulster Community College will begin its first classes
at the new Kingston satellite shortly and Christian said it will do well
for those wishing to attend college.
“We really respect the work or our community college partners – Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, in particular – those are the ones we work with most closely, and their missions are very different than ours,” Christian said. “We have lots of students who transfer here from Ulster, from Dutchess, from Orange, and we think that anything that builds capacity in community colleges over all is good for us as well,” he said.
The Kingston college campus is part of County Executive Michael Hein’s
initiative to grow educational opportunities in Kington by having the
college satellite in close proximity to the high school.
