MONTICELLO – A Jeffersonville woman, who was arrested following
a domestic dispute, tried to set a wooden bench on fire in a holding cell
at the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division on Wednesday.
Deputies were called to 553 Cold Spring Road in the Town of Thompson to assist state parole officers with a domestic dispute involving a parolee. Deputies discovered one of the people involved, identified as Kristina Morgan, 28, had an outstanding warrant for petit larceny. She had been caught on a surveillance camera shoplifting from the Dollar General store in Jeffersonville on August 8.
Morgan was taken to the sheriff’s office for processing and while
in a holding cell in the Patrol Division, she retrieved a cigarette lighter
from a body cavity and attempted to set a wooden bench on fire. A deputy
at the front desk smelled something burning and found Morgan with the
lighter.
A struggle ensured when he tried to take it away from her and in the process, he sustained an injury.
Morgan was charged with felony assault, arson and petit larceny. She was returned to the county jail in lieu of $2,000 bail.
