HUGUENOT – Town of Deerpark Supervisor Gary Spears, who is also town Republican chairman, plans to file challenges with the Orange County Board of Elections to several voter registrations in the town that he believes may be improper.
Spears is concerned that according to voter registration records, 30 people are registered to vote at the same three-bedroom, one-family residence at 140 Galley Hill Road in Deerpark. That is the address of the Dragon Springs Buddhist compound. All of the people registered at that address appear to have Asian names.
The supervisor would like to know if there is any impropriety involved with the registrations.
“Over all there were 60 or 68 new registrations in Deerpark this year of Chinese people,” Spears noted.  “We are concerned, first of all if they are citizens because on the voter registration card the first question is are you a US citizen and it says below that, if not, you are not eligible to vote. I think also troubling to us is we don’t think it’s their primary voting area like their home base.”
When asked if his office was looking into the matter, District Attorney David Hoovler said, “I don’t confirm or deny the existence of an investigation, but cases like this case generally referred from the Board of Elections to the Sheriff.”
A woman, who answered a phone at the Dragon Springs facility on Tuesday, said the group’s leader, Zhong Lee, was not there.
