GOSHEN – The Orange County Legislature
is going to consider for a second time raising the salary cap for county
management positions.
Lawmakers earlier this month sent back a proposal to raise the cap by
15 percent to committee without a vote and on Monday, the Personnel and
Compensation Committee approved a 10 percent cap increase to go before
the full body next month.
Legislature Chairman Stephen Brescia believes it will pass this time.
“The county executive will be reasonable,” Brescia said.  “That is the fear. Everybody thinks they are going to get 10 percent raises across the board. That is simply not going to happen.”
Of the 153 managers, 49 are at their salary ceilings and the cap has
not been raised in 11 years.
Meanwhile, the Ulster County Periodic Compensation Committee decided
Monday night not to recommend a salary increase for countywide elected
officials.
