GOSHEN – A 63-year-old Newburgh man was convicted by an Orange
County Court jury on Monday of criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly
cutting his girlfriend with a switchblade knife during a domestic dispute.

Connie Boykin faces up to three-and-a-half to seven years in state prison
when sentenced next month.

It was alleged by prosecutors that on September 3, 2014 near 47 Land Street
in Newburgh, Boykin assaulted his girlfriend with the knife.

The victim testified at the trial claiming the incident did not happen,
but the district attorney’s office argued that other evidence, including
physical evidence, demonstrated beyond a reasonable doubt that Boykin
had illegally possessed the switchblade at the time of the dispute.

District Attorney David Hoovler said victim of “these insidious
crimes” perpetrated by their intimate partners “deserve the
support of the community, and more importantly they have the right to
remain safe.”

He commended the Newburgh City Police for their investigation that led
to Boykin’s conviction, and Senior Assistant DA Kelle Grimmer, who
prosecuted the case.
