BUCHANNAN – Nuclear Energy Commission
officials have appointed a new resident inspector at the Indian Point
nuclear power plant.

Sarah Rich joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Scott Stewart and Resident
Inspector Garrett Newman at the two-unit site operated by Entergy Nuclear.

Rich joined the NRC in August 2008 and most recently was the resident
inspector at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.

Rich holds a bachelor’s degree in nuclear science and engineering
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree
in radiological sciences and protection from the University of Massachusetts
Lowell. She also graduated from the agency’s Nuclear Safety Professional
Development Program and completed the NRC’s inspector qualification
program.

Each US commercial nuclear plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors
who serve as the agency’s eyes and ears at the facility, conducting
inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant
works and the public.
