MONTICELLO – The USDA approved over $7 million in loans and grants for the Village of Monticello to upgrade its water distribution system, water treatment plant and install a new water storage tank.
The federal funding is a combination of just under $6 million in loans and over $1.2 million in grants.
“While the infrastructure in the village is outdated and in need of repair, this project is a catalyst for additional improvements to be undertaken to improve water service and delivery to the resident of Monticello,” said Village Manager David Sager.
He said with a USDA-funded sewer project already underway and the water system upgrade funding, “the current mayor and board of trustees are aggressively addressing the vital needs of an aging infrastructure in order to improve the quality of life for all Monticello residents.”
Sager said the village will continue to seek grant and low-interest loan opportunities to address other infrastructure needs.
