Fire burns vacant building at former psych center

POUGHKEEPSIE – Fire early Friday morning caused considerable damage to a building at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie.
Fairview Fire Chief Christopher Maeder said the call came in at around 5:17 a.m. and responding firefighters found the Brookside building fully involved. The structure has been vacant for several years.
There were no reported injuries to personnel at the scene. The fire, which caused significant damage to the roof, is currently under investigation.
Several days ago, a vacant building at the former Middletown Psychiatric Center in Middletown burned and had to be razed.
Assisting at the Hudson River Psych Center fire were City of Poughkeepsie, Roosevelt, Arlington and New Hamburg fire departments as well as the Town of Poughkeepsie Police and Building departments, Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response, State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and State Police.
