BEACON – The body of a 21-year-old Beacon man was recovered from the Hudson River less than five hours after he climbed over the rail on the walkway on the south side of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
The man, whose identity has been withheld at the request of the family,
fell into the river at about 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday from the south side
of the span adjacent to I-84 eastbound, State Police said.
At around 4:30 p.m., scuba divers retrieved the body after a State Police marine unit located it under the surface of the river south of the bridge.
The body was transported to Long Dock Park in Beacon and turned over to the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The investigation into the apparent suicide remains open, police said.
