NARROWSBURG – A Lava, New York man is in the Sullivan County Jail after he allegedly ran over a man who is a resident of the Narrowsburg Adult Home.
The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said Wayne Monz, 46, was airlifted to Westchester Medical Center in serious condition.
Authorities said Monz was walking on School Street in Narrowsburg at around 1 a.m. on June 30 with Donna Degroat, an employee of the facility. The two were approached by a pickup truck driven by Degroat’s husband, Vernon Degroat, Jr., 46, lf Lava.
Police said Degroat and his wife got into a verbal altercation at which time Degroat got back into his vehicle, shifted into reverse, knocked down a stop sign, ran over Monz and struck a home on School Street before fleeing.
About an hour later, Degroat turned himself into Pennsylvania State Police at Honesdale where he agreed to be returned to Sullivan County where he was charged with DWI, as well as the felonies of vehicular assault, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief.  He was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
