TOWN OF NEWBURGH – George Woolsey, Sr., the senior current member
of the Newburgh Town Board and deputy town supervisor died on Sunday,
June 28, at age 81.
The native of Orange County was elected to the first of three four-year terms on the town board in 1999. He was reelected in 2003, 2007 and 2011.
Woolsey announced at the May 4 town board meeting that he would not be seeking reelection in the fall.
“I want to get out and smell the roses,” he said at the time. “I don’t want politics to rule my life anymore.”
Woolsey was a volunteer firefighter for over 60 years.
He was married to the former Marie Grieco.  They were the parents of three children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
