WALDEN – The top floor of a three-story
building that was heavily damaged overnight Saturday in Walden was inspected
on Monday and will need to be rebuilt before residents are allowed to
return to their homes.
The first floor of the building at 3 Orange Avenue houses a restaurant and the top two floors housed seven apartments.
Walden Mayor Susan Rumbold said the building was inspected on Monday.
“A structural engineer was there and checked the building,” Rumbold said. The third floor needs to be shored up for safety. Once that’s completed, we can reopen the street that has been closed since the fire then the owners can go ahead with renovations.”
The cause of the fire continues to be investigated and one firefighter remains hospitalized.
