BEACON – The sun was shining on Beacon Sunday as the Beacon Sloop Club
held its 37th annual Strawberry Festival on the Hudson River waterfront.

Some 3,000 people attended to taste fresh strawberry shortcake and other
treats, listen to live music and discuss the environment.

Riverfront
Park in Beacon was the scene of the annual festival

Sloop Club volunteer Amy Labarr of Beacon said the river has certainly
seen improvement over the years, thanks in part to the educational efforts
of the organization.
“We are an environmental sailing group. Our purpose is cleaning
up the river just like the Clearwater,” she said. “We take
people out sailing for free and educate people about cleaning up the river.”

The Beacon Sloop Club sails the Woody Guthrie, a replica of a sailing
sloop.
