SAUGERTIES – A softball game between Union Shave and MHV Investment
teams at the Cantine Veteran’s Memorial Sports Complex in Saugerties
on Wednesday night, June 10, got a little out of hand when a player for
Union Shave allegedly decked an umpire.
Adam Bacon of Saugerties was arrested by Saugerties Police on Friday following an investigation; he was charged with assault and an order of protection was issued on behalf of the 35-year-old victim.
Police said Bacon apparently got into a verbal dispute with the victim over the type of calls he was making the game. Bacon reportedly punched the ump in the face, knocked him to the ground and kicked him. The victim sustained a fractured eye orbital and a soft tissue injury to his head.
Bacon was arraigned and released to reappear in Saugerties Town Court at a later date.
