WALDEN – Former Walden Village Mayor
Brian Maher announced Sunday that he was dropping out of the race for
Montgomery town supervisor and throwing his support to incumbent Supervisor
Michael Hayes. Both are Republicans.
Maybrook Village Mayor Dennis Leahy, a Democrat, has also announced his
plans to run for supervisor.
Maher said he pulled out of the race because he did not want to divide the town and because of family obligations.
“Just a few days ago, my 13-month-old daughter, Mia, took her first steps,” he said.   “I was not there to see it. Putting time in on the campaign train that takes away from your family is part of the job when running for public office and I have always considered it an honor to represent my community. I always want to make sure that the time I will never get back is for a right and just cause.”
Maher said he is backing Hayes because “he does not have a political bone in his body.”
Maher is an aide to State Senator William Larkin.
