POUGHKEEPSIE – Every year for the past seven years, Dutchess County Government’s contribution to SUNY Dutchess has been just under $11 million.
If the county legislature approves the college’s request in its proposed 2015-16 budget, it would increase by $1 million.
College officials presented their spending plan to lawmakers Thursday evening with President Dr. Pamela Edington saying they want to raise tuition by $240 above the current $3,250 annually.
“The community college with the next lowest tuition anywhere in our area is Columbia-Greene and even with our proposed increase, we would still be more than $600 lower.” Eddington said “We would be almost $1,000 below Orange and almost $800 under Ulster.”
Dutchess legislators will now conduct a public hearing and go over the spending plan this summer before approving it in final form.
