MIDDLETOWN – An aggressive dog that
was on a leash was shot and killed by a Middletown city police officer
late Wednesday morning after the animal attacked him.

Officers were called to a report of a dog biting a pedestrian in the area
of 90 North Street. The officer located the dog on a leash being held
by an individual.

The officer asked the person holding the leash to close the leash in a
patrol car door to secure the animal until animal control could arrive.
The dog pulled the leash from the door and attacked the officer. He could
not get away from the dog, had no safe area to retreat and had to shoot
the animal, which died from the gunshot wounds.

One person was treated for puncture wounds at the scene. The owner of
the dog was not been located.
