NEWBURGH – A Hopewell Junction man has been arrested by Newburgh Police after he damaged a city police car and equipment at police headquarters.
People tried to retrain Germaine Robinson, 24, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, at South and Chamber streets at around 8:45 p.m. on Friday, May 29 when officers were called to the scene.
Robinson broke off the side view mirror of a police car and struggled with an officer, who tried to place him in custody. As backup units arrived, Robinson was placed in the back of a patrol car, but he began to kick at the window, so officers transferred him to the rear of another vehicle that had a cage around the window.
During the struggle, Newburgh Officer Curtis Hahne sustained a shoulder injury. He was treated and released at the emergency room.
At police headquarters, Robinson continued to be combative causing damage to a telephone and fingerprint machine.
An investigation revealed he was also wanted in New York City for several vehicle and traffic crimes.
He was charged with felony assault and criminal mischief and misdemeanors of criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
