ARLINGTON – Poughkeepsie Town Police
continue to investigate a three-vehicle crash involving a Wappingers Central
School District bus that occurred at about 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday at the
intersection of Spackenkill Road and Cedar Valley Road.

As the result of the bus being struck by another vehicle, it tipped over
on the driver’s side sending the driver and nine students to MidHudson
Regional Hospital by ambulance for treatment of injuries, the extent of
which was known.

The accident occurred when a 2013 Chrysler Town & Country, operated
by a 41-year-old Rosendale woman, was stopped on Spackenkill Road waiting
for traffic to clear so she could turn onto Cedar Valley Road.

The school bus, driven by a 48-year-old Wappingers Falls woman, was traveling
westbound on Spackenkill approaching the stopped Town & Country.

Police said a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by a 21-year-old Poughkeepsie
woman, approached the stopped Chrysler and collided with the rear of that
vehicle and then crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided
with the school bus. The bus lost control and overturned landing on its
driver side.

The Cavalier driver was alone in the car and sustained non-life threatening
injuries. She was also taken to the hospital.
The Chrysler driver and four passengers were not injured.

The road was closed for several hours while police investigated. Town
Police were assisted by Arlington firefighters and Trans Care Ambulance.

Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call Poughkeepsie
Town Police at 845-485-3666.
