WASHINGTON – The Lugar Center, a policy organization headed by former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar, and Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, has ranked Congressman Christopher Gibson (R, NY-19) first in the new Bipartisan Index.
Senators and Members of Congress were scored based on how often the bills they introduced were co-sponsored by members of the other party and how often they joined bills sponsored from across the aisle.
Gibson said the study validates his interpretation of the Constitution and his approach to representation in Congress.
“That statistic, I think, translates to effectiveness because you can’t get anything enacted unless you work together,” he said.  “So, if you are rated number one in terms of a bipartisan legislator, I think that’s an indicator of why our office has been so successful in advocating for our people.”
Gibson said he has worked with his colleagues on both sides of the aisle to advance reforms and has authored or co-authored several pieces of legislation that have been signed into law, including the Clay Hunt Suicide Prevention for American Veterans Act.
