GOSHEN – Orange County Government awarded a professional services contract to the Center for Governmental Research of Rochester and their subcontractor, The Chazen Companies of Poughkeepsie, to conduct an independent analysis of the impact of the proposed 507-acre annexation of land from the Town of Monroe into the Village of Kiryas Joel.
The county’s review will be separate from the mandatory environmental review that the village and its own planning consultants are conducting.
The county legislature has appropriated $200,000 for the independent review.
“The study conducted by Kiryas Joel will be thoroughly vetted and fact checked,” said County Executive Steven Neuhaus. “I will continue to keep Monroe residents and the rest of Orange County informed about this important issue. We want to learn the true impacts of the proposed annexation. Our review will be comprehensive and transparent.”
