Two killed in Sullivan County motorcycle accident

MONTICELLO – Two people are dead following
a motorcycle accident on Route 97 near Sullivan County Route 114 in the
Town of Cochecton.

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16.

Sheriff’s deputies investigated and found a 2001 Harley-Davidson
motorcycle had run off the road ejecting the two riders when the vehicle
failed to negotiate a curve.

The operator, Gus Kerkoulas, 59, of Hortonville, was pronounced dead at
the scene by Sullivan County Coroner of Elton Harris.

The passenger, Emmy Curran, 38, was transported to Catskill Regional Medical
Center and later transferred to Westchester Medical Center where she died
Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

It is not believed any other vehicle was involved in the accident.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Lake Huntington and the Callicoon
fire departments as well as the Tusten Ambulance Service and Mobile Medic
Ambulance were also on the scene.

The investigation is continuing.
