CATSKILL – A Florida man wanted for murder by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office there has been arrested in Catskill on a fugitive warrant.
New York State Police and Catskill Village Police Monday arrested Jonathan Padron, 25, of Sebring, Florida. He is wanted for the murder of Thomas Nelson, who was shot to death in the parking lot of Genpak LLC on May 9.
The Highlands County Sheriff’s Office contacted New York authorities after information was developed indicating Padron may have fled to the Catskill area.  Surveillance was set up in the Village of Catskill and an acquaintance of Padron was seen in the area of the Uncle Sam Bridge shortly before 6 p.m. while walking with another person.
Police approached the men and identified Padron even though he had shaved his head, moustache and beard in an attempt to conceal his identity.  He was charged as a fugitive from justice and remanded to the Greene County Jail to await extradition proceedings.
