Sullivan brush fire scorches Summitville land

SUMMITVILLE – A five-alarm brush fire tore through the area along Shawanga Lodge Road and Fire Tower Road in Summitville Sunday afternoon.
Fire departments from several areas in Sullivan, Orange and Ulster counties were called in to fight the fire and prevent it from reaching neighboring residences.  Special brush fire-fighting equipment was brought in to assist.
As the fire continued to rage at 6 p.m., firefighters in the woods were instructed to evacuate.
Crews remained on the scene well into the night and will return this morning.
