Registered sex offender arrested for not reporting address

MONTICELLO – Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man for not reporting his recent residential move.
On Thursday April 24, Detectives from the Town of Wallkill Police Department contacted the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office in regards to an investigation involving a registered sex offender.
John Russell Durham, 32, had previously lived in the Town of Wallkill before moving to the State of Florida. He recently left Florida but never made the required notifications of his move.
Wallkill detectives developed information that he could be living in Sullivan County. Armed with a warrant, sheriff’s deputies staked out a residence located at 390 Lake Louise Marie Road in Rock Hill. In the afternoon, Durham and another man, Martin James Hayes III, 30, returned to the residence. When Durham was taken into custody, deputies discovered a marijuana growing operation inside the house, complete with grow lights and fertilizer.
Hayes, who uses that address and one in Warwick, was also arrested. Deputies recovered approximately 2.4 pounds of marijuana. Both men were charged with felony possession of marijuana and unlawfully growing cannabis.
Durham was additionally charged with the felony of failing to register as a sex offender.
Durham was arraigned before Town of Bethel Judge Kevin Rhyne and sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $10,000 bail. He is due back in the Town of Thompson Court at a later date. Hayes was released on his own recognizance to also appear in court at a later date.
Hayes is the owner of Surround It LLC in Warwick, which recently installed a new alarm system in the Middletown City Police Station.
