Area police handle two recent drug overdoses with Narcan

MID-HUDSON – Police in the City of
Newburgh and Town of Saugerties saved two people in recent days, who overdosed
on drugs and were revived with Narcan.

Just before midnight on Saturday, April 4, Newburgh City Police were called
to 222 Broadway for a possible overdose. They found a 41-year-old man
on the floor next to a bed in an upstairs apartment. He was unresponsive
with an extremely weak pulse and low respiratory rate leading officers
to believe he had overdosed on heroin.

Narcan was administered intra-nasally and within minutes, the man regained
consciousness telling officers he had used heroin.
He was taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

At about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 7, Saugerties Police found a 28-year-old
unconscious and unresponsive at 6 Skyline Drive.

Police and firefighters administered first aid and Narcan was administered
resulting in the victim regaining consciousness.
He was taken to a local hospital.

Others who were present told police the victim has a heroin addiction
and was scheduled to enter a rehab problem on April 8.
