ALBANY – Former state trooper John Melville of Goshen was confirmed by the State Senate as commissioner of the State Department of Homeland Security.  He was named acting commissioner months ago by the governor.
State Senator William Larkin said Melville is well deserving of the job.
“A lot of us in the Hudson Valley know him,” Larkin said.
“A lot of legislators throughout the state know him. He put
a nice, shining light on protecting all people of the State of New York.”
Senator John Bonacic said Melville “has dedicated his professional
career to protecting the people of New York State. I couldn’t think of
a more qualified individual to lead the Division of Homeland Security
and Emergency Services. His experience and breadth of knowledge will be
an asset to state government.”
Melville was a member of the State Police for 31 years including as commander of Troop F in the Hudson Valley and as acting superintendent.  He also served later as chief investigator in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
