TOWN OF WALLKILL – A company has presented its plans to develop a medical marijuana farm in the Town of Wallkill subject to state approval.
The use of medical marijuana in the form of pills and oils has been approved by the state with five farms and another five distribution facilities to be chosen.
Valley Agriceuticals has presented its plans for a 70-acre farm on Dosen and Cortright roads to both the town board and planning board.
If it secures state approval, the company would only use 10 of its acres, said Town Supervisor Daniel Depew.
“They would have 40,000 square feet of structural building, a steel structure designed to look just like a large horse or cow barn – same color, same trim, same cupolas – and then to the side of that, they would have 60,000 square feet of greenhouses,” he said.
Depew said other companies also contacted the town to explore the possibility
of developing a cannabis farm in Wallkill, but only Valley Agriceuticals
has had engineering studies conducted and site plans developed.
