WASHINGTON – US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
called for a swift investigation into the derailment of two cars of a
CSX train on the Hudson Line just south of Beacon last Saturday.
That came on the heels of a number of more serious derailments and incidents on the lines maintained by Metro-North Railroad.
Gillibrand said on Wednesday the investigation should happen quickly.
“We should be investing in our rail system. We should have the best technology to keep our rail lines safe both for passengers and for goods. So I will call for an investigation and find out what’s going on. We need to get those investments made because I am very concerned about safety.”
Metro-North has already begun to install new equipment designed to be early warning systems and is working on plans to install additional devices.
