Fire heavily damages automotive repair shop

HILLCREST – Fire early Thursday morning
heavily damaged the Hillcrest Service Center automotive repair shot at
309 North Main Street in Hillcrest. The call came in around 2:44 a.m.
with the building totally engulfed in flames when Ramapo Police arrived
on the scene.

While there, an officer observed a residence at 2 Locust Street was endangered
by the encroaching flames. The residents were alerted and evacuated as
a precaution. That home ultimately was not damaged by the fire.

Hillcrest firefighters extinguished the blaze with assistance from the
Spring Valley Fire Department, Spring Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps and
William P. Faist Ambulance Corps.

No injuries were reported.

Ramapo Police were assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office
Patrol Division, Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Arson Investigation
Unit.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

North Main Street was closed until 6 a.m. while firefighting operations
continued.
